We are thrilled to announce the groundbreaking of our Eat to Live Urban Incubator Farm in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Join us for the Groundbreaking Ceremony, refreshments, and tours of the Princeton Garden & Incubator Farm. You can also learn how to get involved!
The City of Chicago and other partners helped prepare this land for new Englewood farmers. The incubator farm will help farmers improve farming skills, promote their products, and establish sustainable farming businesses. Farmers will have shared access to farming tools, 7000 square feet of growing space (including year-round hoophouses), and other infrastructure. The incubator farm will also provide mentoring and business coaching as farmers expand their businesses. Farmers can sell directly to local customers, as well as nearby stores and restaurants. This collaboration promotes a sustainable business for the farmer and healthy food access for the community.
The incubator farm is part of Eat to Live Englewood (E2L) – a project led by Angelic Organics Learning Center, in collaboration with partners in the immediate neighborhood and beyond. E2L evolved out of efforts to invigorate green initiatives, improve health of residents, and increase healthy food access in Englewood. E2L also includes two learning gardens for community members. The produce from these gardens is donated to volunteers, neighbors, a nearby senior center, and a women’s shelter. E2L is supported by 6th ward Alderman Rod Sawyer and the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development. Additional funding provided by FLO (Urban Pathways Kinship Foundation, The Chicago Community Trust), Cedar Tree Foundation, CHIditarod Foundation, and the Walter S. Mander Foundation. Key collaborators include Real Men Charities, Inc, Grow Greater Englewood, and the Center for Urban Transformation (CUT).
